46 11-23 02:23 Pumper 1 responded M/A to stand in at the New Minas fire hall for a structure fire at 9006 Commercial St. (the Double Dragon restaurant).
About seventy firefighters were at the scene, along with vehicles from Aylesford, Waterville, Kentville, New Minas, Greenwich, Wolfville, Port Williams, and Canning that responded, either by going directly to the scene or by standing in at sister fire halls.
The firefighters had difficulty getting at the fire and getting water on it, because the building had been renovated several times and had multiple roofs. Most of the windows of the one-storey wooden building were smashed, and large parts of the roof caved in.
There was no one in the restaurant at the time of the blaze, but several people were living in an apartment attached to the back of the building. They managed to escape safely, and there were no injuries.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known, although there is speculation that it may have started in the back of the building. The fire is not considered suspicious, but an investigator from the Fire Marshall's office was called to the scene.
Pumper 1 was back in the station at 08:29, and the incident was closed.
47 11-23 05:59 A page is sent out for personnel to respond as replacements for the crew in New Minas, some of whom have to go to work. Unit 4 responds with three members. It is back in the fire hall by 06:29.

were able to knock down the fire in about five minutes, but they remained on the scene for about two hours to monitor hot spots and mop up.
There was extensive smoke, heat, and water damage, especially in the basement area, but the fire got into the walls and caused some damage to the kitchen and living room area upstairs. The cause of the fire was not known, but was not believed to be suspicious.
When Pumper 1 had finished at the scene, it returned to the Canning Fire Hall. It was back in Port Williams by 15:53.

Pumper 1 responded M/A to stand in at the Hantsport fire hall for a structure fire at 47 Prince St -- Minas Basin Pulp and Paper. Unit 4 also responded to assist firefighters at the scene by running various errands. Firefighters from Brooklyn, Windsor, Hantsport, Wolfville, Greenwich, Port Williams, Canning, New Minas, Kentville, and Waterville responded, either directly to the scene or by providing stand-in coverage to neighbouring departments. Michelin also sent a large exhaust fan to remove smoke from the warehouse.
The initial fire was held in check by the building's sprinkler system. There was still a significant fire when the first vehicle arrived on the scene, but the blaze was brought under control quickly. One employee was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization.
The fire damaged up to 40 bales of stored paper, some of which weighed 1500 kg and were stacked up to 6 m high. The problem was that the bundles were tightly bound and posed the same problem as burning hay bales -- they had to be picked apart to get at fire smouldering inside. Crews were doing that indoors initially but, as they found more bales on fire, they brought the smouldering bundles outside by forklift and pulled them apart with excavators in the parking lot.
The building wasn't seriously damaged, and the fire didn't spread to the production area, but there was smoke in the building and work was shut down for the day. The Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
The incident was closed at 12:46.
 51 12-14 10:10
A page is sent out for more personnel to respond to the fire hall to replace some of the firefighters on standby in Hantsport. Unit 4 delivers a replacement crew and is back in quarters by 10:59.
52 12-19 14:01 Residential fire alarm sounding at 255 Collins Rd. The alarm is canceled immediately. No vehicles respond.
53 12-31 22:42 The pumper and tanker were called M/A to assist Canning at the scene of an abandoned 40'x50' one-and-a-half storey, wood-framed house on fire on the Gospel Woods Road in Arlington. The house was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene. Mutual aid was also provided  by Halls Harbour. A pumper from Kentville went to the Canning station to provide stand-by services.
The fire was pretty well extinguished within 45 min, when firefighters came under gunfire, and they retreated. They were forced to abandon two trucks and some hose. Everyone got away safely, and RCMP officers began to negotiate with a man as the structure continued to burn. Soon afterwards, another nearby house and a car burned, but fire crews couldn't do anything. Any attempt to put the fires out was met with gunfire. Both Port Williams vehicles were back in the station by 00:30.
The provincial emergency response team was called to the scene. They contained the situation and throughout Friday (January 1) were negotiating with the man. At 2:23 p.m. on Friday afternoon the man took his own life with a firearm, believed to be a rifle.
