Port Williams Volunteer Fire Department

Now that the spring fire season is upon us, fire departments are stepping up their outside training sessions. Above, we see two teams of Port Williams firefighters attacking a car fire during a training session behind LRB Fabricators.

Established in 1951, the PWVFD is part of the Village Commission structure of the Village of Port Williams. As such, the PWVFD and its structure, membership, and rules of operation and conduct are subject to the sole authority of the Port Williams Village Commission.

Through its 30 members and four modern fire vehicles, the PWVFD provides services to the Port Williams Fire District — an area of approximately 30 km² with a population of 1900 — and adjacent communities in the Municipality of the County of Kings. The Fire District is bounded by the Canard River in the north and the Cornwallis River in the south. The western boundary is the centre line of Tiny Parrish Road and its extensions north and south to meet the two rivers, and the eastern boundary is the Minas Basin (see map).

The Department responds to about 50 alarms per year.

Mission Statement

The mission of the PWVFD is to protect property, prevent loss of lives in case of fire or other emergency, and educate citizens of the community in the prevention of fires.
